Multimedia Design: Layout

Ad for cupcakes

Assignment 2: Multimedia Design.

Author’s note.

This isn’t a specific campaign but a set of multimedia designs then I published the initial draft this project had a very different feel it was called velvet bakery and I used mainly photos of my roommates red velvet cupcakes that we had lying around. This was fine for a draft but in reviews and feedback it was clear that my quick idea didn’t resonate with my audience as we stumbled upon the problem that someone reading the various advertisements would assume the bakery only sells red velvet cupcakes. So, I reworked my entire design.

Inspiration.

I wanted to create work that would align with the topics covered in my blog post since I picked baking as a semester topic the idea was a no brainer. Cupcakes just came from my roommate having a valentine’s day party and having a bunch of red velvet leftovers but as my peer review said I needed more variety.  So, I reworked my entire design top to bottom it is almost unrecognizable from before but it is also better.

Reacting to peer feedback

The first thing I did was pick out a batch of premade cupcakes from Walmart. The batch I picked out were blue and pink from there I decided to pick a color scheme for my design that would match. We ended with a whimsical pastel blue background and a soft pink with white and dark blue accents. So, any white space you see is part of the design and was used sparingly.  On the topic of fancy in my research most bakeries use some sort of calligraphy design, so I incorporated that into my initial stages. I also got rid of all the white text because it was hard to read. Those were some of the biggest changes I made to my peers’ advice. I also worked on alignment and taught myself how to use the rulers and this project is much better aligned than last time. It’s tiny progress but it makes a difference! I spent a lot of time on this project, and I hope my improvement is noticeable.

Conclusion

There are still several areas improvement that I need to make but I’m learning and I’m proud of the work I’ve done on this assignment. The feedback I got from my professor and my peers truly changed the way I approached this project. It was intimidating throwing out my initial concept, but it was for the better.  The time it took to rebuild the project made me better at adobe illustrator, adobe photoshop, and adobe InDesign.  I understand the software far better than I did at the beginning of week and even though I ended up covered in frosting in the creation of this assignment. I’m proud of my work.
